Training opportunities for local workers

Electrical maintenance during construction of the Ichthys Project Onshore LNG Facilities is a major undertaking and Paul Rice is one Darwin electrician who is relishing the opportunity to work on a world class Project.

Paul is part of the team from Ventia on the Operations and Maintenance Services (OPS-1) package – working on electrical installations and maintenance in general areas of the Bladin Point site.

For the 33-year-old, who has dual trade qualifications in Electrical Instrumentation, working on the Project has provided fantastic training and developmental opportunities.

Initially working for another electrical contractor, Kentz, during that company’s work as part of the first phase of construction of Manigurr-ma Village at Howard Springs, Paul has moved through the ranks to become a Supervisor on site.

“I’ve been really happy with the training opportunities I’ve been able to pursue on the Project,” Paul said in 2014. “Most recently I’ve gained my high voltage operating ticket, and I’m hoping there will be more to come.”

For Paul, the best part of the Project is working as part of a team committed to working together safely and with open communication.

“Working in an environment in which safety really does have the highest priority, and where the level of professionalism is really strong, is a great experience,” he said.

“We have a great team, everyone is open and approachable, and that is everyone from package management through to all levels, which is great to be part of.

“I can honestly say that I really enjoy coming to work each day and I’m committed to this Project.”
